Last year I stayed in Manchester for several times and never had a problem to find a hotel with smoker rooms. This year at Easter it was the first time for me to smoke outside, which made me quite uncomfortable. Date:13/5/08
Name: Ian - Rochester, Kent Comments: So you have noticed that people are staying in and not going to pubs! They are achieving their purpose - you stay in, you don't meet people, you don't discuss politics, you don't think. This is exactly how the b*&^%$ds running the country want the population to be. Name: Sarah Martin from Solihul Comments: We all need to start banding together whatever the cause yes. I've had eyesugh of this unfair British society. I can yest be classed as a smoker but understand how destructive this law has been. Name: Dane Hadley from Northampton Comments: Do you think the Government will plough money into our little pub to keep us afloat like it did for Northern Rock ? I don't think so. After 24 years our lives have been destroyed and put out of our home by the control merchants of Downing Street. Wrap yourself in Brishness! What Britishness? Date:14/3/08
Name: Dawn from Stoke-On-Trent Comments: Its not just affecting pubs and clubs, our work place has a non smoking policy.. it was just for the staff its now being rolled out for terminally ill clients (ms, huntingtons, parkinsons) who don’t have much as it is in their life! We pay our way when we choose to smoke, they are now putting the price of everything else up to bring in the revenue they are loosing! I’m not voting for anyone.. Well apart from bnp..... Date:13/3/08

Name: lynda from Lincolnshire Comments: I just want to say that I am a smoker but trying to give up, not because of the ban but because I want to! But I have to say I think the ban stinks what ever happened to freedom? I believe there should be areas for non- smokers and smokers but don't push us outside to get a result! I've never liked smoking in restaurants but that's my choice, but in pubs surely it's part of the culture? Date:04/3/08
Name: John from Woodford Comments: Hey, are you only just noticing, our civil liberties are being taken one at a time. Name: Andy Gordon from York Comments: Read this shite below, f******* labour again, bring back the riots !!! Smoking permits on the cards - 15/02/2008 09:01:00. Smokers could face a ban on buying cigarettes unless they purchase a government permit. The idea has been proposed by Health England, a ministerial government advisory board. The plan has been outlined in a paper that is currently being considered by the health minister who has been appointed to oversee NHS reform - Lord Darzi. The paper also proposed incentives for large companies to provide a daily exercise hour for employees and a ban on salt and proces food. Date:12/2/08

Name: Max from London Comments: Has Air Conditioning only just been invented???. I knew an old guy who had chronic emphysema (A NON SMOKER I might add - His condition was asbestos related) who could sit with me and my dirty, horrible, smoky mates for hours and enjoy our company and a few pints without emitting so much as a polite throat clear. Reason? Top quality LEV's that's why! (Local Exhaust Ventilation - a sort of Air Conditioning that REMOVES fumes rather than circulating them around the room) These are readily available and certainly a more affordable option to those in the hospitality trade who for whom going out of business would be a far less savoury prospect. Didn't see the powers that be offering that as an option did you. But you could always stick a Tax on the LEV Units, eh, HM Govt???? Now there's an idea for you.. By the way, thanks for mucking up my mate's nan's Bingo nights. One of the already few pleasures she has in life i.e. a couple of halves, a social evening with her buddies and OH MY GOD!!! A cigarette!! FACT??Smokers die younger - she's 85. The case rests............. Date:4/2/08
Name: Kathie from Derbyshire Comments: Why can’t the brewery just go back to having a smoke room and lounge? Then the non-smokers can have a choice whether they sit in it, and smokers can have a choice to smoke if they wish to. Date:3/2/08
